The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Combined Competitive Examination (CCE)

exam conducted to recruit officers for various Group A and Group B posts within the Bihar state administration, including the Bihar Administrative Service (BAS) and Bihar Police Service (BPS). The exam is held annually, with the 71st CCE (2025) involving 1,298 vacancies. 

Exam Structure

The selection process consists of three stages: 

  1. Preliminary Exam (Prelims): A screening test of 150 objective-type marks based on General Studies. It typically includes 1/3rd negative marking.
  2. Main Exam (Mains): A descriptive exam of 900 marks, consisting of General Hindi (qualifying), General Studies, and an essay.
  3. Interview (Personality Test): 120 marks to test the candidate’s presence of mind, analytical skills, and knowledge of Bihar-specific topics. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized university. Final-year students can apply, provided they pass before filling out the main application.
  • Age Limit: The minimum age is generally 20-22 years, with a maximum limit of 37 years for the unreserved category.
  • Age Relaxation: Candidates from SC/ST/OBC and women can receive up to 5 years of relaxation, with 10 years for PwD candidates.
  • Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens. 

Key Posts and Salary

The CCE acts as the entry point for approximately 20 different services. Top positions include:

  • Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) / Senior Deputy Collector: Administers subdivisions and maintains law and order.
  • Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP): Supervises police activities, crimes, and security.
  • District Commandant/Superintendent: Manages specialized services.
  • Revenue Officer / Block Development Officer (BDO): Manages revenue collection and development programs.
  • Salary (7th CPC):

  • Entry-level officers (Level 7-9) receive a starting basic pay ranging from ₹44,900 to ₹53,100, resulting in a total in-hand salary of approximately ₹60,000 to ₹80,000 per month.
  • Officers are entitled to perks like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), and medical facilities.
  • Recent Exam Details (71st/72nd CCE)

  • 71st BPSC CCE: The Prelims were held on September 13, 2025, and the Mains are scheduled for April 25-30, 2026, for 1,298 vacancies.
  • 72nd BPSC CCE: The Preliminary exam is scheduled for July 26, 2026.
